10 Winter Electrical Maintenance Checklist for Industrial Facilities

10 Winter Electrical Maintenance Checklist for Industrial Facilities

Michigan winters can be brutal—and so can the electrical issues that arise when systems aren’t properly prepared.

Here’s a 5-step checklist for cold-weather electrical maintenance:

1. Inspect Outdoor Panels

Check for corrosion, loose connections, and intact gaskets. Use weather-rated enclosures.

2. Test Backup Power Systems

Run generators and battery systems under load. Check fuel levels and heater function.

3. Verify Cold-Weather Rated Conduit/Wire

Ensure that exposed conductors and fittings are rated for freezing temperatures.

4. Perform Infrared Scans

Thermal imaging can detect hot spots or loose lugs in switchgear and panels.

5. Check Lighting & Exit Signs

Verify that emergency lighting and exit signs are functioning—especially in unheated areas.
